There is now a huge selection of cat houses in pet shops, from small to large, heated and not. However, if you want your pet to have a unique cat house that fully meets its needs, you can make one yourself.
Before you start, you need to decide what material you are going to use for the house. Then consider that cats have a very sensitive sense of smell, so you should choose natural materials that will not have an unpleasant odour.
It is better to use natural fibres to cover the house. It is advisable to use a water-based glue for joining the parts, preferably PVA glue, which does not have a pungent odour. The design of the cat house should be such that it attracts the cat but in no way repels it with a strong and unpleasant odour.
Next, attention should be paid to the strength and stability of your installation. If your cat is frightened once, it will lose interest in this house forever.
The more bulkythe larger the cat, the more stable the structure of the house must be. The size of the house also depends on the size of the cat for which it is built. The cat must feel completely at ease in the house, be able to stretch out to its full height, and be able to comfortably stretch out and curl up into a ball.
The best way would be to combine the cat house itself, the claw scratching post and the observation platform, all located at a distance from the cat house. All these accessories are simply essential for your pet and, when arranged in one set, they will not take up much space and will bring a lot of joy to those for whom the structure is intended.
When preparing to assemble the cat house, you will need to find all the necessary tools and materials. You will need:
Sheets of plywood 8-10 mm thick;
Polyethylene pipe with a diameter of 10-12 cm;
Furniture angles;
Natural fibre rope, preferably made from jute or hemp;
Odourless, water-based adhesive, PVA is best;
Foam, polyester, or carpeting whichChoose the furniture according to your pet’s needs, pay attention to the surface they prefer to sleep on, and use the same materials for the upholstery.
Screwdrivers, drills, screwdrivers, hacksaw or wood saw, also according to your wishes and needs.
It is best to build the house on the ground for stability, but if your floor is not suitable, it is best to provide extra plywood to ensure the stability of the house you are building.
Cat house assembly procedure
Cut the walls of the house from sheets of plywood, the dimensions of which depend on the size of your cat. Optimal dimensions for a cat house are 40 x 40 x 40 cm. You will need six of these kits. Cut a round hole in one of them, 12-15 cm in diameter, for the entrance. Fix the corners of the furniture between the walls of the house, one at each joint, and glue them together with glue to make them more solid.
